The Friends provide valuable support to the library through their volunteer and fund-raising activities. The Friends are an independent auxiliary group, with their own board of officers and bylaws, working in conjunction with the library to help provide the best service possible.
They meet on the second Monday of each month at 10:15 am, at the library. If you’re interested in joining the Friends, or serving as a volunteer, please contact the library. For 2013, the following officers are leading the Friends:
President Ann Davey
Vice-President Bonnie Kay
Treasurer Janice Freeman
Secretary Barb Fowler
To make a donation to the Friends, print out and mail this form. Your donation will help fund the ongoing development of the library. The Friends are a 501c3 charitable organization, so your donation may be claimed as a tax exemption.
The Friends’ primary fund-raising project is the annual vintage book sale, held in Glen Arbor each August. Donations of quality used books and recordings for the sale can be brought to the library during normal business hours. Please note that donations should not be left in the library's book drops. The Friends also host a tour of selected Glen Lake area homes every other year. The next home tour will take place in July 2013.
The Friends offer sale books throughout the year through several other avenues. Selected collectible books may be purchased online via ABE Books. Follow the “Booksellers” link and search for “The Cottage Book Shop”. In this online catalog, books offered for sale by the Friends are identified by an inventory number starting with GLCL. An assortment of sale books is always available at the library as well, just inside the main entrance.
